Thermoplastic Polyurethane
TPU refers to a family of materials, all of which have many valuable characteristics of both rubber and thermoplastic materials. Through the careful selection of raw materials their properties can be finely tailored to suit the product's purpose. It also contains the strength of polyurethane chemistry, which forms the material's chemical backbone. TPU stands out because of its outstanding versatility and ability to be made into to a wide range of multi-purpose products. It is this changeable quality which gives TPU its unique innovative value.
Not only equine boots use TPU; it is also used for a range of sports footwear. The soles and heels of trainers are made of TPU, demonstrating its high abrasion resistance and elasticity as well as resilience and flexural strength. With a different balance of ingredients, it is used in the shells of ski boots and inline skates for its toughness and rigid qualities. It is this level of variation in properties which can be created, combined with the ease of moulding, which allows Tri-Zone tendon and cross country boots to be so skilfully designed.
