Tendon Boot Trials

Prior to the launch of the tendon boots, we conducted extensive laboratory and field testing. The outcome of these tests showed the Tri-Zone tendon boots outperformed the market leaders in concussion and penetration protection to horse's tendons in impact situations.

The study tested three leading brands against the Tri-Zone tendon boot. The first test was to measure the potential impact created by a hoof hitting the tendon. Boots were fitted around a vertical anvil, a bar impactor then hit the boots with increasing force and the concussion levels inside the boots were measured. Compared to three other leading brands, Tri-Zone tendon boots absorbed up to 50% more concussion.

The second test was to establish the level of protection offered by the boot against a potential slicing action, caused by a shoe hitting the tendon. A blade impactor came at an angle across the plate of the anvil with increasing force until the boot was penetrated. The level of force required to achieve penetration was then measured. The Tri-Zone tendon boots had a 50% higher resistance to penetration versus the leading competitors. It was also given an overall protection rating of 20 compared to 12.5 for one other brand and a rating of 10 given to the other two brands tested.

Field trials at a Professional Event Yard and a Show Jumping Yard where the product was used on 4-6 horses per day yielded many positive comments:
